1st pillar: This has been a non-starter with Republicans in the past. Is it really a starter this time? 2nd pillar: Can we just stop it with the wall thing? Increase funding of measures that actually work and use the rest to benefit Americans. 3rd pillar: Currently the vast majority of immigration is "merit based". This is the H1B visas that Republicans rail against. 4th pillar: The problem is the disconnect between what some Americans think of as immediate family members and what the majority of cultures around the world think of as immediate family members.
No it isn't. Employer-sponsored visas are a drop in the ocean of immigration. The "vast majority" of immigration is family-based. Please stop talking about H1B visas in the context of immigration. These are temporary work permits with no independent path toward permanent immigration. Not all H1Bs get sponsored by their employers for green cards. Not all who are sponsored will qualify. Not all who are sponsored start as H1B workers.
