Nicholas Andrew James
OP here. These are the names on my list as well. I like James, but not Jim or Jimmy. Is there a way of preventing others from using nicknames?
Unless he decides at some point that he wants to go by Jim or Jimmy, I think he'll always be James. I commented above that I have a 5 year old Andrew. He goes by his full name. To my knowledge, not one person has ever called him Andy or Drew. For the most part, people will your child the name you/ he prefer. Starting around middle school/ high school, boys have a tendency to give one another nicknames. However, the nickname usually relates to their last name or is unrelated to their name at all. Also, I know about 5 or 6 boys under 8 named James. They all use their full names. I think that's more common with this generation. This also makes it more likely he'll be James and not Jimmy.
