I don't think you can predict it OP. DCI starts at 6th though, not 5th.

Other schools offer some Chinese -- if you are a new student to it in 6th you're not doing immersion anyway. I know you can take Chinese as a foreign language Deal and BASIS. Perhaps others. [/quote]

My child already has a Chinese background and is currently in a Chinese immersion program in another area. She would have a strong background even if she moved to a non-immersion elementary school before enrolling in middle school at DC. so I was hoping DCI would offer some kind of continuation.[/quote]

I"m sure DCI would. But it's a crap shoot. If you get a good number in the lottery, you can almost certainly get in at 6th. If not, you're out of luck. If you get in, DCI will give your child a test to determine what level Chinese to take.

You should also look at Thomson Elementary, which has more than token Chinese in elementary.[/quote]
