I don't think you can predict it OP. DCI starts at 6th though, not 5th.

Other schools offer some Chinese -- if you are a new student to it in 6th you're not doing immersion anyway. I know you can take Chinese as a foreign language Deal and BASIS. Perhaps others.

My child already has a Chinese background and is currently in a Chinese immersion program in another area. She would have a strong background even if she moved to a non-immersion elementary school before enrolling in middle school at DC. so I was hoping DCI would offer some kind of continuation.


I"m sure DCI would. But it's a crap shoot. If you get a good number in the lottery, you can almost certainly get in at 6th. If not, you're out of luck. If you get in, DCI will give your child a test to determine what level Chinese to take.

You should also look at Thomson Elementary, which has more than token Chinese in elementary.

That would show surprisingly good judgment by the board. Mary is an organizer, not an educator. Her contributions have been incredibly valuable. And now, with the school an actual going concern and the building nearly complete, it's time for the educators to take over.
