https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/sep/25/white-women-husbands-voting White women, defend yourselves. Trump won the majority of white women who voted “White women more susceptible to pressure from their (mostly white) husbands” “White women side less with all of womenhood than with their particular husband” Interesting note: “The more educated a woman was, the less likely they were to say women being able to support a family was important” This tracks true with what you see on dcum. The more educated a woman is, the more she places value on male providers “White women were most likely to dismiss the importance of women being able to support a family” Translation: white women like being kept women the most and have providers
I don't understand that at all. I have a JD precisely so I could always support myself, with fairly regular hours. I grew up with a father who did NOT support us on a regular basis. I would never depend on a man for support. The only thing I can think of is that most white women with advanced degrees grew up in stable homes and are possibly more likely to trust that men will provide. ??
Maybe it's about how women in general want men who are more educated and earn more than they do. So, an educated woman with a high paying job will want a man who is even more educated or equally so, and earns either about the same or more, ie, good providers. I will admit that I picked a husband who could provide for the family should I want to stay at home with my kids, which eventually, I did, though I never thought I would. Back to the topic of thread, it was the suburbs and the middle of the country that supported Trump, and that includes white women. I think race had more to do with it than gender.
