I'm on the left and I don't like the vandalism. I would be fine if his statue came down through legal means. I have long thought the holiday was misplaced and should be renamed.
Me too. I'd like to remind people that "liberals" and "the left" aren't monoliths. While we have similar beliefs, we have different means to those ends. I'm in favor of taking statues down and putting them in a museum or other educational facility. I am not pro-vandalism.
Serious question: what museum would want those statues? Wouldn't they be vandalized too? I don't like Christopher Columbus but, I also don't agree with vandalism.
A museum that focuses on the real truths about all those European "explorers" instead of the glossy sugar coating BS that was fed to us in grade school. Or it could be a special exhibit at the Native American Indian Museum called "The American Holocaust: Genocide of the Natives". I don't agree with vandalizing public property. However, I'm in full agreement with preserving the history of Christopher Columbus in a museum so that people will learn the truth about his atrocities. Also, that we should never forget the truth about the genocide that took place in North America and the slave trade.
