Cons not McLean
I have lived in both. This is definitely a pro. Trust me!
+2 Hella yeah!
DP here. Have also lived in both and much prefer McLean.
PP who prefers Virginia. Other than commute to DC, what do you like better?
Whoops. Meant Vienna. Sorry.
It's less congested. I think the residential neighborhoods are prettier. It's easier to get to Metro than it was from our Vienna neighborhood. People and schools seem less sports-obsessed and more interested in a wider variety of topics. Langley HS people are less snooty vis-a-vis McLean HS than Madison HS people were vis-a-vis Marshall HS. There's no divide comparable to that between Town of Vienna residents and county residents with Vienna addresses. I do miss the greater retail variety in Vienna and the W&OD trail On the other thing, some other things in Vienna have McLean equivalents (Viva Vienna = McLean Day; VYI = MYB; Vienna Woods/Cardinal Hill = Tuckahoe/Chesterbook, etc.).
I'm confused by this - we lived in town for 8 years and moved 2 years ago into the county outside town limits. No one has said boo to us about not being "in town" any more. I'd say that our kid's social circle is probably 50/50 on who live in the town limits, and we've not noticed any "divide". For a lot of people that want a house larger than a 1950s rambler but can't afford a $1M+ McMansion, most of the $650-$900K houses in that range are just outside the town limits.
