Chipotle, Starbucks, tropical smoothie, nottoway park, Oakton library. All sidewalks.

It's less congested. I think the residential neighborhoods are prettier. It's easier to get to Metro than it was from our Vienna neighborhood. People and schools seem less sports-obsessed and more interested in a wider variety of topics. Langley HS people are less snooty vis-a-vis McLean HS than Madison HS people were vis-a-vis Marshall HS. There's no divide comparable to that between Town of Vienna residents and county residents with Vienna addresses.
I do miss the greater retail variety in Vienna and the W&OD trail On the other thing, some other things in Vienna have McLean equivalents (Viva Vienna = McLean Day; VYI = MYB; Vienna Woods/Cardinal Hill = Tuckahoe/Chesterbook, etc.).
Interesting. I didn't like McLean at all. I am not from around here and found the people to be challenging. Vienna has a much more welcoming feel.

I live in one of the townhouses that backs to Nottoway. Obviously OP's budget is greater but we love the park and that community. Zoned for Mosby Woods. 22181 is very walkable for people who just like to walk but don't need to walk to a coffee shop. Pre-baby we did walk to downtown Vienna every weekend though, and we would see several other couples also making that regular walk. Long, but pleasant.

But, there are also responsive. I work in ToV and have seen them in action. Called the non emergency line and they were great.
AHH! Wish I had known this. Got a ticket there several years ago for not stopping fully at a stop sign (the kind of stop where you slow to 3mph but do not stop). My baby was screaming in the back and I had to go breastfeed in the backseat while the cop wrote the ticket. He could not look me in the eye when he came to hand it to me. Not my finest hour.

I'm confused by this - we lived in town for 8 years and moved 2 years ago into the county outside town limits. No one has said boo to us about not being "in town" any more. I'd say that our kid's social circle is probably 50/50 on who live in the town limits, and we've not noticed any "divide". For a lot of people that want a house larger than a 1950s rambler but can't afford a $1M+ McMansion, most of the $650-$900K houses in that range are just outside the town limits.
