OP here.  Thanks.  We don't drink or go to bars as a couple because DH doesn't drink (I go to a bar with friends or my mom maybe 3-4 times a year).  I just like going to museums, movies, theater, dinner etc. with DH.[/quote]

That's great. If we lived in D.C. I would want to go out more. We live in a boring college town now. There's no where I really want to go. I see my friends at the mosque every Friday afternoon and we have a dinner party every Monday evening. There are 5 or so families and we take turns hosting. [/quote]

But you're probably not an immigrant. I go to the mosque and immediately I make friends. I've tried to friend other American moms. It's really hard to make friends in this area. I do have American acquaintances I go for walks with sometimes. Many people struggle to make friends in this area. It has been discussed a million times. I have great community at my local mosque. Having a sense of community is very important to keep people happy. Religious people tend to be happier because they're less isolated.
