Back to the question - how do we get a new Superintendent?
The short answer is the superintendent is appointed by the School Board, who reviews the super's performance annually. https://www.apsva.us/superintendents-office/school-board-superintendent-relationship/ I'd start by asking each school board member how they personally voted and evaluated the super's performance. I assume they are supposed to evaluate his progress based on the five strategic goals the County defined. These are: Goal 1: Challenge and Engage All Students Goal 2: Eliminate Achievement Gaps Goal 3: Recruit, Retain and Develop High Quality Staff Goal 4: Provide Optimal Learning Environments Goal 5: Meet the Needs of the Whole Child APS website tells us to: Leave a voice mail message for the Board or individual Board members by calling 703-228-6015. Messages should include the caller’s full name and best phone number to call back. I think one could honestly say that he's done a good job with #3. I personally have a lengthy list of APS failures to engage students, achievement gaps between lower SE population schools and higher SE population schools are higher than ever, and there is absolutely no way no how that any APS is interested in the needs of the whole child, with lessening interest in recess and wellness and more teaching to the tests.
