This happens every year, OP. Every year someone who actually goes to the gym all year posts the same thing, because when something annoys you, the natural thing is to vent about it in hopes of finding like-minded people to agree, say it sucks, and then we all move on. And every year, someone gets all pissy because they think the OP is fat-shaming. Nobody who actually goes to the gym regularly gives a crap how much you weigh. We actually think it is awesome when people decide to make healthy changes. Inwardly, we applaud when someone decides to get in shape, lose weight, etc. We would just be happier if all of those people didn't suddenly decide to get their collective sh*t together on 1/02. We're not fat-shaming; we're cliche-shaming. If someone who went to church 52 weeks a year made a post on Christmas saying, "damn, church was crowded today" I would post something saying, "Sorry bro, I mostly skip it but I feel the need to go on Christmas." I wouldn't jump right to "they are Christian-shaming me" or "they don't think I should be there." They're wondering where the heck I was the other 50 weeks. (I was at the gym.) :-)
Nobody accused the OP of "fat shaming". The OP was simply being called out for making a douchey post. Here is the the Op in its entirety: "I was leaving the house this morning and was about to grab my workout gear. Then it hit me - all the New Year's Resolution peeps would be out in full force this week. So I'll just work out at home in the evenings this week and go back to the gym next week after they've all broken their resolutions." Where in any of this post is anyone to believe that the OP thinks "it is awesome when people decide to make healthy changes."? Where in that post does the OP imply "Inwardly, we applaud when someone decides to get in shape, lose weight, etc."? The OP just went on to bitch about how her "sacred workout" (her words) was going to be inconvenienced for an entire week. There was no empathy, no encouragement. There was only resentment over a brief and trivial inconvenience. Perhaps the OP could have offered some etiquette tips for the "resolutioners" that might help the week run more smoothly and make everyone happier?
