The Jerusalem Post claimed that an estimated 40,000 Iranians were killed during the uprising. It is the same number(on the high side) claimed from the 1982 Hama massacre in Syria 10,000-40,000(depending on what side you are on). Interestingly the NYT has been reporting the number killed around 3,117 and the number of detained (frequently cited as approximately 40,000). The times is citing international human rights groups as a source.

No one outside Iran knows but that will not stop the propaganda. This war will undoubtedly kill over a 100,000 Iranians more if it goes longer. [/quote]

Gee, why would the Jerusalem Post inflate the number? Maybe to gain more sympathy with the people who aare happy to parrot the information uncritically to gain sympathy for a war?[/quote]
