I mean, nice try, but I am the Iranian who posted earlier, and I am very much NOT a Trump supporter and in general despise him to his core. It was right there in my post, which you apparently did not read.

Also, Iranians ARE fighting to change their own government - at least 40,000 of them have died in service of that cause, but they can't do it alone. I know you think their lives are worth less than dirt, but try to be more discreet about it at least. And this is neither here nor there, but do you think Iranians don't serve in the US military? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kavon_Hakimzadeh. There are between 500,000 - 1 million Iranians living in America and they have contributed immeasurably to its culture, economy, military, academic institutions, etc etc.

DP. Can you explain what you would like the US government to do for Iranians? You’re obviously very frustrated, but it’s not clear what you want Americans to do to help your people.

Still waiting for an answer, Iranian American pp.

Nothing more than what they've already done. Weaken this regime, force them to make concessions, give reform/change (whatever form that ends up taking) at least a fighting chance. If we end up with a continuation of the regime but in a weakened, more western-friendly form - so be it. That is a positive development in my eyes, and I don't see why it's a negative one in the eyes of so many on this thread that claim to care about America's interests.

Why exactly does it have to be western freindly? Are you looking for validation?

Asking for acceptance into the white community.

80% of the Iranian diaspora in America marries outside of their community and to predominatly white partners. They self-diminshing but it’s still not enough it seems.

True, they think it’ll make them be seen as white. Newsflash, you’ll always be seen as a brown person, Iranian.

Just as an FYI, on the US census and related, the US government includes people from the Middle East, including Iran, under the category of "White."

It's fine to object to this on the basis that it's not America's affair and they should stay out of it, because tax dollars or whatever BS (so far, only six American service members have (tragically) died, so I really don't think it's concern for our troops). Immoral position to take in the face of this regime, but ok. That's not what most of this thread is doing, though. People are instead moralizing at actual Iranians and pretending to care about the girls school that was bombed (unconfirmed that this was even Israel/the US and not Iran itself) or the future of Iran. Where were you when this regime murder FORTY THOUSAND OF ITS OWN PEOPLE?? You don't give one flying f about Iranian people. Please don't pretend otherwise.

As far as I can tell, so far, all America has done is kill (extremely justifiably) a bunch of monstrous butchers and weakened their grip on power. This may or may not lead to regime change, but I can tell you for damn certain the regime is not going to be able to carry on the same way after this. Absolute WORST case scenario, the regime persists but its nuclear ambitions are done for and it becomes more friendly to US interests.

You're allowed to define your experiences. That doesn't mean you get to sign my kids up to die in your war. Six people is too many. If you'd like to die fighting the Iranian regime, no one is going to stop you.

This is simply TDS and delusions about Israel.

Why don’t people understand there are a lot of Dems who are ACTUALLY peaceniks? Who protested the Iraq war. Who protested Gaza because it was clear it went way beyond strategy. Women and children suffer in war. Soldiers die for interests that aren’t always clear. There is nothing good about it.

The irony being that Trump was supposed to be a master negotiator who would keep us out of war. He is a destabilizing force.

No one likes war. I also don’t like the wanton terror Islam brings to every nation.

Well that’s their country and their religion. They chose that, they’re fine with that. Doesn’t mean you need to support war.

You missed the every nation part

Two things can be true at once. The Ayatollah was bad (was going to say the world is better off now, but I'm honestly not certain that is true bexause of the way this has been handled) AND this administration is a clown show being led around by the nose by Israel AND international law and human rights are being violated, and for what reason, the administration has not been able to clearly communicate.

Okay so why do my kids need to die for this? We can’t go around doing things so other people can be happy at our expense. We need health care in America. We need to support our next generation. Not get into random wars because some people are happy.

Exactly six American servicemembers have died in this conflict so far. Far less than the number of Americans killed by the Iranian regime and its proxies. Pipe down.

You pipe down. We don't want our kids in this fight.

You people don't get it, do you. The Islamist terrorist rot that this regime spreads will come for you too. Just look at the state of this thread. It's page after page after page of antisemitic, anti-Western propaganda talking points. This regime has murdered Americans on American soil. It has murdered Americans abroad. It will continue to murder Americans and threaten American interests until it is stopped. And if it gets nukes - it cannot be stopped.

Sorry but who do you think you're talking to? We have all been through the weapons of mass destruction manipulation before, not that long ago, and we don't want to do it again and we certainly don't want our kids involved in it again.

+1. I watched too many of my high school classmates go off to Iraq to buy any of this bullshit again.

I must’ve missed the draft

We managed to lose thousands of Americans and a couple of trillion dollars without any draft at all. And of course we're still paying for it since we borrowed the money. Our great-grandkids will probably still be paying for that war before we even get to the cost of this war.

Are military never allowed to fight?

DP. Wars or military action in general should be the absolute LAST resort. They have become Trump's go-to.

Last resort means military action on our soil. Never a good option

The American public is no longer interested in a bunch of unproven very scary bull crap pulled out of somebody's ass. Bring us proof, real evidence of the threat along with a real discussion and plan of what we intend to do about it all the way to the end.... or go away and leave our families alone.

I’m simply stating a fact. War on your soil is never a good option

Well, that's apparently the goal of the air campaign--to weaken the regime and force them to make concessions. Let's hope it doesn't escalate into boots on the ground.

As an aside, you might want to be a little less combative with fellow Americans who are not as invested in this particular fight as you are. I'm a dual national as well (US/European country), but I work very hard internally to understand the perspectives of each country separately.

But Hegseth explicitly said that this war is not intended to lead to a “nation building quagmire” or any of that woke stuff of trying to make the world a better place. This is a video game for Trump to see how many points he can get by blowing up different targets.

I want to see boots on the ground. It will great to see the IDF and US military roll in with no stupid rules of engagement. Rules of engagement are leftist weak minded stuff.

Wonder if it will be an IDF general in charge or a US general?

Why wouldn't it? America has just proven that the Iranian regime is a paper tiger, militarily. They have been utterly humiliated on the world stage. Their anti-Western posturing isn't going to play with the Iranian population anymore (to the extent it ever did).

When 9/11 humiliated America did we suddenly look more favorably on the Arab world? Like this idea seems like total nonsense.

This is just the start of this war. The only way to remove the Iranian government is to put troops on the ground. Their national civilian government has 2.1 million people working for it plus another 610,000 active duty military. If you include all levels of government it’s about 8 million people. Iran is a big country not like Israel that was almost overrun by a ragtag group paramilitaries from Gaza.

Did most Americans despise their own government and prefer the Arab world prior to 9/11? No? Then this is not a useful comparison.

One. of the Iranian people I know are absolutely THRILLED with this turn of events. They are literally taking to the streets and celebrating, including here in DC.

I am a lifelong progressive Democrat. Typically, progressives center the narratives of people directly affected and allow them to define their own oppression. But now that they see an opening to criticize Israel (75% of this thread is foaming-at-the mouth, over-the-top, ISIS-level anti-Israel conspiracy propaganda), suddenly what actual Iranians say and feel doesn't matter to them at all. I don't care that Israel was involved here. I simply do not care. If they're the ones that create a catalyst for change in my country that ends up freeing 93 million people from the hellscape they've been living in, great. You people are so BLINDED by your maniacal hatred of Israel and to a lesser extent Trump (who I'm no fan of generally) that you can't perceive the absolute absurd hypocrisy of your position.

When it tortured dissidents in secret prisons, threw acid on women for not covering their hair, literally went into hospitals where protesters were being treated and shot them point blank in the head? You don't give one flying f about Iranian people. Please don't pretend otherwise.

As far as I can tell, so far, all America has done is kill (extremely justifiably) a bunch of monstrous butchers and weakened their grip on power. This may or may not lead to regime change, but I can tell you for damn certain the regime is not going to be able to carry on the same way after this. Absolute WORST case scenario, the regime persists but its nuclear ambitions are done for and it becomes more friendly to US interests.

The Jerusalem Post claimed that an estimated 40,000 Iranians were killed during the uprising. It is the same number(on the high side) claimed from the 1982 Hama massacre in Syria 10,000-40,000(depending on what side you are on). Interestingly the NYT has been reporting the number killed around 3,117 and the number of detained (frequently cited as approximately 40,000). The times is citing international human rights groups as a source.

No one outside Iran knows but that will not stop the propaganda. This war will undoubtedly kill over a 100,000 Iranians more if it goes longer.

Gee, why would the Jerusalem Post inflate the number? Maybe to gain more sympathy with the people who aare happy to parrot the information uncritically to gain sympathy for a war?
