I don’t like that Robby is holding a grudge against Landon.
Disagree, I like it. It has only been one day. Robbie has high standards, so he can take a little time. In real life, could Landon even work in this environment again? Seems very risky. I would think he would lose his medical license, at least for a few years.
It actually is realistic, or at least they are portraying in a realistic way by talking about how he is in a program specifically designed to help doctors with substance abuse issues recover and re-enter the field. Addiction is a major issue in medicine and too common to simply have a no tolerance approach. There is also a recognition that the hours and stress of the job likely contributes to addiction, which leads to a desire to offer second chances. The recovery programs are strict though -- testing, therapy, participation in a 12step program, and everything must be documented and you have to meet deadlines and be accountable. Like being on probation. There are recovery meetings specifically for healthcare professionals. Now they seem to be implying that maybe Langdon wouldn't be eligible for this program if they knew he'd stolen from patients. I'm not sure. One thing they didn't touch on last season or this season though is that it's pretty common for healthcare providers to have to do random drug testing specifically because of this risk -- these people have a lot of access to narcotics. But maybe that's not everyone? My sister is a nurse anesthetist and she's always had random drug testing at every hospital she's worked at. It doesn't prevent addiction issues but a program like that would have made it harder or possibly deterred someone like Langdon from stealing drugs or doing them while at work, because of the risk of getting called up to restart any time.
