Because it's going to be performative and short-lived. He can't keep the national guard in DC 365 days a year indefinitely. And these shows of force are not going to address the multiple underlying causes that produce teen criminals--or any criminals--in the first place. I don't know what could--but this isn't it.

Also, this flexing of federal power--always aimed at blue cities--is aimed at pleasing his base and possibly exploring how much force he can wield in the future to further consolidate his power. It flies in the face of all the the GOP has preached for decades about the supremacy of "states rights." It also fuels the narrative that helped bring him into office--that America is under siege by urban criminals of color (as well as undocumented migrants) and only he can fix it. [/quote]
