However I am frustrated with my fellow DC residents who think the solution here is to simply deny that we have serious crime issues, or that the current status of unhoused people in the District is fine, or that juvenile crime isn't a significant problem that is linked to a variety of other issues DC desperately needs to address (education of at risk kids, graduation rates, joblessness among young black men, teen pregnancies, child abuse and neglect in the city, etc.).
Trump is an idiot who is trying really hard to become a fascist dictator, but going Pollyanna about the very real crime issues in the city is not the solution.
And yes I am a loooooongtime resident of the District, and I live in a neighborhood with a long history of crime issues that had gotten much, much better between 2010 and 2020, but has taken a turn for the worse since Covid that really concerns me.

Crime is rampant - school trips don’t even want to go to DC.
Wasn’t an intern shot recently?
I’m a Dem btw.
Crime is not rampant. It is dropping. We go out all the time and never experience crime.

The Washington Post has reported that close to 120 FBI agents are beginning to be deployed for nightlong shifts to assist D.C. law enforcement in halting Washington-based carjackings and violent crime, two sources with knowledge of the situation told the outlet.

LOL, you keep telling yourself that. Trump specifically said to round up the homeless. Many of whom are simply down on their luck, others have severe mental issues that need treatment. None of that is happening here. the GOP has been cutting those services and programs since 1981.
Where will the homeless go? Seems ridiculous without an actual plan.

He is deploying troops in a US city. This is a needless and baseless federal takeover so that he can build his little fortress. People of DC do not want this. There are myriad reasons why it’s bad.
