This polling from a pollster trusted by Dems is catastrophic https://puck.news/biden-plunges-in-swing-states-in-leaked-post-debate-poll/
The Dems in CO, MI, and VA must be livid to see all their gains pissed down the drain.
For real. And also in AZ, NV, GA and so on. Democrats choosing to go with Biden, who will obviously be unable to finish his term due to dementia, Parkinson's and so on, will be devastating for all the down ballot races. It WILL be a Republican landslide across the board. Just because Democrats cannot deal with the fact that human beings age. Most people would like to be 86 someday. It's not a knock against Biden that he's old. But absolutely no one on the planet wants an 86 year old President of the United States. Pathetic. And illuminating about the priorities of Democrats. It's certainly not about policy. Or winning.
And, who do you replace for Biden?
This is something that should have been dealt with a year ago in a competitive primary. Who knows how someone is going to do on the national stage. Someone appointed at the convention is unlikely to fly. Definitely not Harris. And I was a big Harris fan when she first ran. But not choosing her leads to all sorts of other problems. You just don't know who is capable until the light of Sauron shines upon them. It's a big frickin' problem for Democrats. They are going to lose all of it - WH, Senate, House, competitive governorships - bc of the utter arrogance of Democratic leadership thinking they can put up the Weekend at Bernie's candidate because it's merely Trump. The smokey room at the convention really is their only choice. I think Andy Beshear, governor of Kentucky, would be the guarantee win under the circumstances. But he probably wouldn't have won in a fair primary given the influence of progressives on the coasts. So, it would be a mess and he might not want the nomination under the circumstances. It's a disaster. Democrats were incredibly reckless going with Biden and clearing the field for a failing 80-something.
It would be a disaster of the GOP opposition were a Romney or a McCain (remember back when Republicans put forth legitimate candidates?). Trump is the opponent and as a candidate, he is in the same ballpark of weakness as Biden. We don't need a rock star candidate to beat Trump. Just a normal one and they will emerge soon.
