After the debate, the only question is why it's not Trump 99% Biden 1%.
Cause we want a democracy?? No one can seem to explain how Trump will win. Needs those suburbs in the swing states.
Trump is leading ALL the swing states. That's how he will likely win, no matter who the Dems run.
WRONG!! People aren't as stupid as you think they are. Put a competent candidate next to Trump and the majority in those states won't be duped into voting for Trump. People just need to be reminded of what a real POTUS candidate is next to Trump. Trump's MAGA idiots will vote for him no matter what. Everyone else is just waiting for a viable candidate to emerge.
2016 would beg to differ. The people were completely duped by "Butter Emails."

The Dems in CO, MI, and VA must be livid to see all their gains pissed down the drain.
For real. And also in AZ, NV, GA and so on.
Democrats choosing to go with Biden, who will obviously be unable to finish his term due to dementia, Parkinson's and so on, will be devastating for all the down ballot races. It WILL be a Republican landslide across the board. Just because Democrats cannot deal with the fact that human beings age. Most people would like to be 86 someday. It's not a knock against Biden that he's old. But absolutely no one on the planet wants an 86 year old President of the United States.
Pathetic.
And illuminating about the priorities of Democrats. It's certainly not about policy. Or winning.
And, who do you replace for Biden?
This is something that should have been dealt with a year ago in a competitive primary.
Who knows how someone is going to do on the national stage.
Someone appointed at the convention is unlikely to fly. Definitely not Harris. And I was a big Harris fan when she first ran. But not choosing her leads to all sorts of other problems. You just don't know who is capable until the light of Sauron shines upon them.
It's a big frickin' problem for Democrats. They are going to lose all of it - WH, Senate, House, competitive governorships - bc of the utter arrogance of Democratic leadership thinking they can put up the Weekend at Bernie's candidate because it's merely Trump.
The smokey room at the convention really is their only choice. I think Andy Beshear, governor of Kentucky, would be the guarantee win under the circumstances. But he probably wouldn't have won in a fair primary given the influence of progressives on the coasts. So, it would be a mess and he might not want the nomination under the circumstances.
It's a disaster. Democrats were incredibly reckless going with Biden and clearing the field for a failing 80-something.

65% saw him as unfit for office prior to the debate, and that only went up to 72%
https://mol.im/a/13585619
Notwithstanding this, the race is still tight, meaning that a sizable percentage of people (~20%) are okay voting for someone they view as cognitively unfit to lead the free world.
This is interesting because I got the impression from DCUM that there was widespread ignorance about Biden’s... let's call it affect. DCUM has consistently expressed a belief that Biden is spry and mentally agile, particularly when compared to his opponent Trump. While some DCUMers have since acknowledged that they ignored the signs, many are committed to a belief that either Biden is okay, or that his cognitive health is irrelevant to his job performance. By the numbers, this means DCUM is basically inhabited by among the most committed and perhaps extreme supporters on the left.
When one side is a cult and the other isn't, of course you will see this kind of movement. YOu don't see ANY GOP bailing on Trump for his incessant lies or desire to be an autocrat.
Just wait until Biden's replacement suddenly has a commanding lead in the polls. You'll then see some regret from the GOP for foolishly nominating Trump for a third consecutive time but by then it will be too late for them to make a change. No one likes a guaranteed loser.
I'm putting exactly zero eggs into the "unnamed mystery candidate" basket
Said candidate does not exist. Said candidate needed to get his or her ass in gear A YEAR AGO.

There are no more debates before the convention. Everything between here and then will be highly scripted. Witness Biden tottering out to make a statement after the SC decision yesterday and not taking any questions. The WH speech writers will feed him what he needs to say on the teleprompters at the occasional rally. There will be an illusion that Biden is a functional president and all is well. And they will count on Trump saying one asinine thing or another to keep distracting attention from how weak Biden is.
Groupthink will continue to settle in. Everything is fine. No Whitmer or Newsom will rock the boat. No billionaire will want to strain relationships, which are far more important for the donor class than what Party is in the White House. They're going to do fine regardless.
There will be no change. And Democrats will continue to sleepwalk into disaster.
I still have faith in Biden seeing the writing on the wall and doing the right thing for his country by announcing he will not accept the 2024 Dem nomination. Sure, his ego is as big as Texas and he obviously craves power but at the end of the day, he is a decent person that cares about going down in the history books as someone who was on the right side of history. Stubbornly remaining in the 2024 race and losing to Trump would put him on the wrong side of history for sure.
When's Trump going to see the writing on the wall? He's morbidly obese, he eats junk, and is like just 3 Big Macs away from a stroke or heart attack. IN ADDITION to being almost as old as Biden, and being more incoherent and delusional than Biden. It's so brazenly dishonest that there is all of this hyperbolic hysteria about Biden and none about Trump, when Trump is clearly worse.
We're hoping Biden is a better American than Trump and puts his country first. Secondly, we (Dems) don't want Trump to see that writing on the wall because Trump is an easily beatable opponent. Even Biden has a chance to beat Trump. It's just that the odds of Biden beating anyone at this point are looking slim. Get it now?
