How to get into one of these companies?   Do I need to get a referral from someone who works there?   I have a lot of DoD experience and clearance but not a SDE (as I am not working on cutting edge so I won't be able to compete ). It seems like there are a lot of SDE jobs but I have old skills for that job.  Maybe I should look under people jobs vs engineering - I might need to start at entry level due to competition and work my way up.  [/quote]

Haha, my skills are fine. I interview fine but can’t get past the screen to interview for the high paying companies.  How does he get the interview and chance to show that skill?  Does he demo a project on GitHub? Or have a project demo from when he was in school?[/quote]

They aren’t fine if you aren’t getting through the screening.  Redo your resume and study for the interviews.  He had none of those things.  He worked his way up and it took 20 years.  [/quote]

What are you talking about? By screening I mean the resume screening; I don’t get a chance to code anything. Have you ever applied to Google? You don’t get to code away after applying.

Does he work for Amazon, they do screen any applicant.  I’ve turned down their offers because I am not interested in a sweatshop. [/quote]
