There are many nice people in the Langley pyramid. But you need only read this thread and others to see there are many people there who are incredibly indifferent to the needs of anyone else. As long as they get what they want, they don’t care if other schools are inconvenienced, other neighborhoods are overrun with traffic, and the needs of poorer families go unmet.
You could say this about anyone. Parents tend to put their own kids' needs first. That's just how it goes. And no, I don't live in Langley. Attacks just get tiresome, no matter who they're aimed at.
Yes, parents do tend their own kids’ needs first. The difference is that Langley has so many people who don’t think anyone else matters at all.
The difference is that our school board member Jane Strauss has made it clear that Langley is her piggy bank for the rest of the school district and our needs be damned.
New Langley family here. I don’t even know who Jane Strauss is.
She is the School Board member for the Dranesville District, which includes Langley. She kept Langley out of boundary studies when Langley parents didn’t want to be redistricted to South Lakes, and made sure Langley is getting an $80 million renovation that expands its capacity, even though other schools built around the same time in the mid-60s are still waiting to be renovated. But she also favors smaller class sizes at schools that have more poor kids (unlike Langley, which has virtually none). As a result, most voters in the Langley area have tried unsuccessfully to replace her on the School Board. These are the same people who imply Langley is paying the bill for the rest of the county and that Strauss is treating them as her “piggy bank.” Most of the main advocates for closing down the Route 123 exit ramp to the Beltway come from their ranks. Oink, oink, indeed.
