You could say this about anyone. Parents tend to put their own kids' needs first. That's just how it goes. And no, I don't live in Langley. Attacks just get tiresome, no matter who they're aimed at.
Yes, parents do tend their own kids’ needs first. The difference is that Langley has so many people who don’t think anyone else matters at all.
The difference is that our school board member Jane Strauss has made it clear that Langley is her piggy bank for the rest of the school district and our needs be damned.
New Langley family here. I don’t even know who Jane Strauss is.
She is the School Board member for the Dranesville District, which includes Langley.
She kept Langley out of boundary studies when Langley parents didn’t want to be redistricted to South Lakes, and made sure Langley is getting an $80 million renovation that expands its capacity, even though other schools built around the same time in the mid-60s are still waiting to be renovated. But she also favors smaller class sizes at schools that have more poor kids (unlike Langley, which has virtually none).
As a result, most voters in the Langley area have tried unsuccessfully to replace her on the School Board. These are the same people who imply Langley is paying the bill for the rest of the county and that Strauss is treating them as her “piggy bank.” Most of the main advocates for closing down the Route 123 exit ramp to the Beltway come from their ranks.
Oink, oink, indeed.
Regarding Langley's renovation, it's just a complete lie to say it was "put ahead" of other schools. Langley was built in 1965 and has *never* had a renovation; we've waited patiently for our turn as other schools were renovated first. Most of the other schools built during that time have all been renovated already (McLean, Madison, South Lakes, Marshall, etc.). Oakton and Herndon are currently in the renovation process. So quit your griping about that. Langley has every right to be renovated, along with all the other schools built in the '60's. Move on and find something else to whine about.![]()

Glad to hear. Maybe if more kids go there and Langley FCPS won’t cannibalize the nearby school districts, as threatened, to fill up your under-enrolled schools.

Cooper was under capacity in terms of enrollment. And not sure having buses traverse from this side of Mclean to the other side of McLean for Longfellow was helping our areas transportation woes any. Plus, most of Cooper's kids ride buses anyway.
By under capacity you mean the trailers next to the school are not full of students?
+1
They had to add another mod unit this year because there were so many kids.
Poor snowflakes.
The point - since you missed it - was that Cooper was never under capacity to begin with. And now it's over capacity, just like Longfellow and Kilmer. Happy now?
