There's knowing and not-knowing, right? For example, I used to work with a guy who was never anything but respectful to me (though I disliked him for his complete incompetence). I'm not a big talker at work beyond work stuff. But gradually over the years, as in several years after I started working with him, I started hearing stories. So-and-so told me that her officemate said that Larlo stared at her breasts. Another woman said she heard through the grapevine that Larlo made inappropriate comments. Someone else said she heard he yelled a lot and harassed female staff. That sort of thing. I never experienced it, never witnessed it, never talked to anyone who admitted experiencing it first-hand, but after a few years it was sort of an atmospheric thing where everyone knew there had been talk, but no one ever made formal allegations. And we are all employment lawyers so you'd think someone would have made allegations, but when it's your job and reputation on the line, it's not so easy.

Meryl predates Harvey and has power in her own right, and likely has had a completely different experience of interacting with him. Also, he seems to go for young vulnerable girls and she hasn't been that for a long time. She'd tell him where to shove it if he tried, and he would know that.

I can well believe that she didn't know for sure, but that she knew the rumors, but perhaps never took any steps to satisfy herself of their truth because -- let's be honest -- most people in this kind of situation don't. People look out for themselves and their immediate friends and that's about it. Particularly in an industry where there are power brokers and knowing someone is the ticket to success.[/quote]

On a different note, I think there are some who knew and kept the secret to themselves. These are people known as the Paltrows. There were some who heard rumors that he used the casting couch method and called other women whores for using it. These women are called the Lohans. And then there were people who were successfully and victims of the Lohan rumors and may or may not used the practice. These women are called the Lawrences.  Additionally there were people who knew and kept the secret for a profit. These people walked away with NDAs and confidentiality clause settlements, so they did not talk. Another group of people knew and individually warned women, known as the Jolie's. Finally there were some who heard whispers but dismissed them because after all Weinstein was their friend and he had never shown the propensity of such vile behavior toward them or anyone else they called friend. They deemed such ripumours born out of jealousy to bring Weinstein down. After all, people had started vile, vicious, hateful lies about them so why would they believe such garbage about a friend - escpecially a friend who had always been so kind. These people are called the Obamas and Streeps.

I know I have friends that I would defend to the end. I would call you a dirty, filthy, no good, jealous, lying heifer for suggesting my good brined was a despicable, rapacious, sexual abuser,  and be dismayed and dumbstruck at how blind and gullible I was as his friend. But, just because my friend was proved to be as bad as reported would not mean that I had known all along. [/quote]
