Most of the American POWs captured by North Vietnam (like John McCain) were due to downed aircraft. According to Wikipedia article below "During the Vietnam War, thousands of U.S. aircraft were lost to antiaircraft artillery (AAA), surface-to-air missiles (SAMs), and fighter interceptors (MiG)s." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_aircraft_losses_of_the_Vietnam_War The B52 bomber was relatively protected but 26 were lost during the Vietnam war. We have far more air superiority over Iran now than we ever did during the Vietnam war.[/quote]
