Youngkin is not interested in giving public schools more money.
Voucher money can go directly to kids already in private schools - just like it did in Indiana.
We don't hate public schools here. We're mad right now. But we don't hate public schools and we don't want to destroy them. We don't want vouchers.
That’s unfortunate since Glenn Youngkin specifically campaigned on school vouchers.
DP and I sure as hell want vouchers. I don’t think they destroy schools and I do think school choice is at least a step in the right direction. I’m a former IB public school teacher and I’d never want my kids going where I used to teach.
Of course they destroy schools. That's the point.
Well they do destroy the school that parents are desperate to get out of, but, good. If you’ve never sent your kids to or worked in that kind of school, you don’t get it. You are living in your GS10 bubble. But I’ve seen some shit and I would do anything to give those kids a lifeboat out of there.
I’ve seen it and I don’t think vouchers are the answers. They leave the worst of the worst in public school rather than improving for all.
You’re not improving for all now. You’re just sitting in your GS10 bubble failing all the kids except your richie rich kids and your neighbors. It’s gross. You’re gross.
You realize not everyone who wants to go to the charter gets to, right? That it’s a lottery? So you just don’t care about the kids who don’t get in? The state I grew up in now has them and it has absolutely made the already bad public schools worse. And it’s the more resourceful parents that get their kids in. The ones who will be fine either way because their parents care. You aren’t helping the kids whose parents don’t care and they are the ones who need it. I don’t claim to have all the answers. My mom was a teacher at a Title 1 school who saw a lot of shit too. A lot. But charter schools aren’t helping the school where she taught nor the other bad ones in that public district.
No the PP - doesn’t realize that only kids whose parents have their acts together enough can apply / use these vouchers. I’m also not a Fed either.
And only kids who are accepted. SN kids will be fcked.
They can also kick out kids with behavior problems. It’s very hard to kick kids out of public school. Anyway, I’ve been thinking about this for years and my best solution is two teachers in every classroom in certain schools rather than vouchers.
