There are still hundreds of thousands of mail in ballots to come in. They will be heavily for TM, so it’s very likely that this will turn around. We won’t know until Friday or Saturday. But mail in ballots are typically 30-1 Democrat. So the odds favor TM greatly.

Hundreds of thousands of votes that haven’t been received processed? Highly unlikely.[/quote

There are not a 100,000 votes to be processed anywhere. PP is crazy.

Voucher money can go directly to kids already in private schools - just like it did in Indiana.

We don't hate public schools here. We're mad right now. But we don't hate public schools and we don't want to destroy them. We don't want vouchers.

That’s unfortunate since Glenn Youngkin specifically campaigned on school vouchers.

DP and I sure as hell want vouchers. I don’t think they destroy schools and I do think school choice is at least a step in the right direction. I’m a former IB public school teacher and I’d never want my kids going where I used to teach.

Of course they destroy schools. That's the point.

Well they do destroy the school that parents are desperate to get out of, but, good.

If you’ve never sent your kids to or worked in that kind of school, you don’t get it. You are living in your GS10 bubble. But I’ve seen some shit and I would do anything to give those kids a lifeboat out of there.

I’ve seen it and I don’t think vouchers are the answers. They leave the worst of the worst in public school rather than improving for all.

You’re not improving for all now. You’re just sitting in your GS10 bubble failing all the kids except your richie rich kids and your neighbors. It’s gross. You’re gross.

You realize not everyone who wants to go to the charter gets to, right? That it’s a lottery? So you just don’t care about the kids who don’t get in? The state I grew up in now has them and it has absolutely made the already bad public schools worse. And it’s the more resourceful parents that get their kids in. The ones who will be fine either way because their parents care. You aren’t helping the kids whose parents don’t care and they are the ones who need it.

I don’t claim to have all the answers. My mom was a teacher at a Title 1 school who saw a lot of shit too. A lot. But charter schools aren’t helping the school where she taught nor the other bad ones in that public district.

No the PP - doesn’t realize that only kids whose parents have their acts together enough can apply / use these vouchers. I’m also not a Fed either.

And only kids who are accepted. SN kids will be fcked.

They can also kick out kids with behavior problems. It’s very hard to kick kids out of public school.

Anyway, I’ve been thinking about this for years and my best solution is two teachers in every classroom in certain schools rather than vouchers.

That’s all you’ve got tonight, huh? Maybe they identify as more than one person. How dare you assume.

I identify as 52 people, one cat & one chicken. To question me means you are a demented racist. VOTE DEMOCRAT.

I don’t think the odds favor Terry greatly when he’s behind by 80,000 votes.

I think their math is wrong. I think it's mathematically possible for McAuliffe to pull it off. It's unlikely but not impossible. So they're having to count all the votes - and if they have to get to mail-in votes, that could take days or weeks.

It’s fine to wait until all the votes are counted.

You think those kids will secure a spot at a private? Most won’t and the schools will continue to decline.

I think anything—ANYTHING—is better than where they are now. A charter that fails halfway through the school year. A 90 minute commute across town to a rich kid school. A parochial school. Anything.

You “liberals” are offering nothing but more money for the same failing staff. No thank you. I want to save the kid, not the school.

+100

So you’re good as long as you can secure a spot in private for your kid? Or maybe you already have one.

What about all of those other kids left at that school? You really DGAF about them?

Man don’t you get it. Right now they’re all left at that school. I’d rather save 10 kids than 0 kids.

But you’re talking about “saving” 10 kids least in need of saving while condemning 100 to even worse school conditions. What would you say to those 100 you harmed?

Parents have had enough

I agree parents have had enough, but it’s not all about CRR and trans issues. Democrats closed schools for an entire year. People living in Virginia looked around at republican run states and saw their kids in school. With COVID not over and threats of new variants constantly talked about, no way do parents want another Democrat in charge.

Our area schools brought kids back in to the buildings around the same time as many other schools.

5-11 can get vaccinated within days.

Totally irrational decision making.

It was irrational for the Ds to have their head in the sand on how big of an issue this really was.

What? School closures? They happened all over the world. There was a global pandemic.

No, we lagged way behind the rest of the world in getting our kids back to learning.

Nope. When our kids went back in Feb/Mar there were many other schools (~40%) still transitioning back to school at the same time.

Am I misunderstanding what you’re saying or is 60% more than 40%?

It was constantly changing over a period of time. I’d have to look up exact numbers again but roughly:

Jan 2020 - >50% of US kids had only virtual option
Feb 2020 - ~40% only had virtual option (this is when some public schools in our area started sending back younger grades)
Mar 2020 - ~30% only has virtual option (all kids were back)

I assume you mean 2021 but that’s fine. But I think VA voters are saying they wanted to be the ones with an in person option - not what we had.

Yes, 2021. Way past my bedtime.

Schools in this area had a reasonable response to the pandemic. Perhaps if we had prioritized schools over bars kids could have gotten back in earlier.

I should go to bed too. You can say that about schools v bars but I say this is the result of that attitude - handing the Gov to the Rs. I voted D FTR. But I think the Ds only have themselves to blame for this. I tried to tell them to open schools hybrid in August 2020.

^ and it’s so irrational because the pandemic is practically over and we can’t change history.
