I’m the 23:13 poster and yes we did decline a Latin spot. Yes I do know a family that declined Basis. I also know many families that wanted DCI as their top choice who did not play the lottery in 5th at all. Also if you think all families in feeders are fed employees or can’t afford private or parochial, then you are wrong. I can think of 3 families alone in my kids close group of friends in addition to ourselves. I can think of 2 or 3 other families off the top of my head. Doesn’t matter if you believe me or not. Feel free to call me a booster to try to suit the narrative you want. But there are many families like us who choose to live EOTP and not WOTP to be closer to downtown, have our kids be in a more diverse school environment, and are fine with our current school options of immersion and then at DCI.
Why even play the lottery at if your sold on DCI?
We also played the lottery, won a spot at Walls, and then turned it down. The reason we played is because we wanted our kid to go through the application process and decide for themselves if DCI is the right place for them.
That’s completely different. Latin is purely lottery. Walls has an application process so I could see the benefit of going through that process. PP insists that DCI is so amazing but then tries to lottery for Latin.
I am the PP that got into Latin and declined the spot. I never said I was sure on DCI. We were fairly confident but not sure. We wanted to explore all possible options on the table so played the lottery and applied to privates. Then once we got our results and knew what our options were, we decided on DCI. We got into Latin and private school. If you are the type that don’t look at all possible options to then weigh the pros and cons that is your perogative. What is exactly so hard to believe here. Some families are absolutely sure and don’t play the lottery. That is also a group we know and again what is so hard to believe?
