But there are many families like us who choose to live EOTP and not WOTP to be closer to downtown, have our kids be in a more diverse school environment, and are fine with our current school options of immersion and then at DCI.

Why even play the lottery at if your sold on DCI?

We also played the lottery, won a spot at Walls, and then turned it down. The reason we played is because we wanted our kid to go through the application process and decide for themselves if DCI is the right place for them.

That’s completely different. Latin is purely lottery. Walls has an application process so I could see the benefit of going through that process. PP insists that DCI is so amazing but then tries to lottery for Latin.

Different poster- Latin is a better school for middle of the road average IQ learners. DCI is not good if kid is a middle of the road learner. It’s big and it’s mostly geared for high achievers and bringing up the button. Walls is great for kids strong in humanities, not good if you’re considering European colleges or are a math/science kid.

I've heard several people recently say they like the math and science teachers at Walls and that the ELA teachers are lame.

It’s common knowledge that the high performing kids go to Basis.

I would agree that Latin draws more the average kid.

If the classes are tracked, and you have a big enough cohort to stay advanced, then I agree, CAPE scores are irrelevant.

Bingo.

I would also add that you need to compare apples to apples.

As said in this thread, DCI has 20 times more ELL and SPED. If Latin had similar kids, numbers would be very different

I am the PP that got into Latin and declined the spot. I never said I was sure on DCI. We were fairly confident but not sure. We wanted to explore all possible options on the table so played the lottery and applied to privates.

Then once we got our results and knew what our options were, we decided on DCI. We got into Latin and private school. If you are the type that don’t look at all possible options to then weigh the pros and cons that is your perogative. What is exactly so hard to believe here. Some families are absolutely sure and don’t play the lottery. That is also a group we know and again what is so hard to believe?

I guess if you prioritize learning a foreign language over everything else and you have no other decent options, DCI is a good choice.

DCI over Latin Cooper is not unreasonable.

DCI over any Latin is reasonable if you care about academics.

That is demonstrably false.

More kids are below grade level in ELA and math (especially the latter) at DCI than either Latin.

Here are the latest CAPE results for 4+:

Latin 2nd St

ELA 73.1
Math 56.3

Latin Cooper

ELA 64.4
Math 50.2

DCI

ELA 49.8
Math 26.5

This thread is not a Latin versus DCI thread.

We would have taken a spot at Cooper if we had gotten one. The commute is far better and DCI middle school is pretty chaotic for older child.
