As a member of the general public, how would you like feedback for your child on this standard? Do you want a check mark somewhere or do you just assume that the teacher did this if it is a standard? Do you want this on the report card? This one would be hard to put on a standardized test. I'm fine with it just being in the curriculum.
Good. How many others are you fine with not being tested? The majority maybe? I could go through and count how many standards are very difficult to test in a standardized way (a lot). There are some standards that give actual teaching examples and I assume those are the ones that are tested. Those are probably not the ones you want teachers spending a lot of time on, but in certain schools they will spend an inordinate amount of time on those if the tests are high stakes. It becomes questionable whether testing is worth it. Standards are fine. We must have standards. Just get rid of the tests. The tests are the problem. The "opt outers" have it right.
