I don't get how the "fake pregnancy announcements" are SO HURTFUL!!!!111 on April Fools' Day. A bunch of my friends have been reposting those memes for about a week. Wouldn't those people be hurt by any pregnancy announcement, even the real ones? So by that logic none of us should ever say anything good on facebook/twitter/etc. ever again lest someone be hurt/jealous/etc. Right.
It is hurtful in that these people seem to view pregnancy as a joke. For those women who struggle with getting pregnant, struggle with maintaining a pregnancy, suffer from miscarriages or stillbirths, or somehow wind up losing their babies, pregnancy is NOT viewed as a joke. I've seen several on FB in prior years where women showed their boyfriend/fiancee/husband a fake "positive" pregnancy test as an April Fool. I would give just about anything to be able to show my husband a positive pregnancy test, just once in my life. My solution to these "fake" announcements is just avoiding FB today. Its working for me, but it is disturbing that there are so many people out there who don't see how this could be hurtful to another woman. If its a real announcement from a friend of mine, you can bet that I'd be one of the first people to send along congratulations. But to make a mockery of it for a joke, to me, is just in bad taste.
