I am a former fed and agree.  You could fire 2/3 or more of the agency I worked for and there would be no discernible impact.  My colleagues and I would talk about how a fed job was a form of welfare.  At least then you had to show up and pretend to do work to get paid. Most of the Feds I have ever worked with are smart, hardworking, and passionate about serving this country and trying to make the world a better place.  But of course, they expect to be paid enough money to feed their families and save for their futures, so they are apparently enemies of the people.

Sadly, the average American has the worldview that “productivity” = making more money (for some CEO) = inherent value.  What value is being generated by Forest Rangers patrolling National Parks?  Look at all those trees!  There’s still money to be made in lumber, is there not?  Fire the “leeches”, clear cut the forests, make the billionaires richer.  That’s the new American way.[/quote]
