It actually is everyone's business-- everyone driving a much larger vehicle than they need makes it harder and less safe for other cars on the road. The big SUVs and trucks reduce visibility for everyone else, make the roads feel more crowded (necessitating wider lanes and more construction). They also take up more space in parking lots. And it's proven that large, tall vehicles are much more dangerous to pedestrians even at lower speeds-- they pull pedestrians down and under the car because of where the impact happens and this leads to worse injuries and more deaths. Additionally the greater damage done by large vehicles (to both people and other vehicles) has the effect of raising insurance rates for everyone.
