Subject: What cars do you consider to be tacky/ cringe?
1. BMW 2 or 3 series and Mercedes A-class - it’s obvious ppl are just buying for the clout, not performance and it’s thirsty.
2. Teslas - particularly cybertruck, but most of them. Teslas don’t appear well manufactured or safe - more like a “cool” car for people who don’t know anything about cars. C
3. Suburban in the close in suburbs. Too big for local parking lots, if you need that much space just buy a minivan.

It actually is everyone's business-- everyone driving a much larger vehicle than they need makes it harder and less safe for other cars on the road. The big SUVs and trucks reduce visibility for everyone else, make the roads feel more crowded (necessitating wider lanes and more construction). They also take up more space in parking lots. And it's proven that large, tall vehicles are much more dangerous to pedestrians even at lower speeds-- they pull pedestrians down and under the car because of where the impact happens and this leads to worse injuries and more deaths. Additionally the greater damage done by large vehicles (to both people and other vehicles) has the effect of raising insurance rates for everyone.
So actually 100% other people's business.

I know two different owners of early 2000’s Audi TT’s whose cars left the roadway at higher speeds because they became airborne due to lack of downforce on the back of the car. The low pressure zone immediately above the rear of the car created enough lift to suck the rear end of the car right off the pavement. The same way an airplane wing generates lift. The shape of the car does the same thing.
Are they necessary on [i]all [/i]cars? No. They’re probably not even critically necessary on [i]most[/i] of the cars that have them, as long as speeds are kept below 80ish mph and/or cornering forces are kept at less than .5g for speeds greater than 25-30 mph. Beyond that threshold, the pounds of downforce generated by a spoiler can help the rear tires stay planted and in contact with the road when they otherwise may have lifted or unloaded the suspension.
I realize you don’t understand any of the dynamics of performance driving, so it’s hard to dumb it down enough for you to get it, but aerodynamics are a real thing, and you’ll simply have to take the word of someone smarter than you. [/quote]
