Lmao! No one taught or learned the “full curriculum” last year, and no one learned anything for the last 1/3rd of 2020. No grade is fine.
My 8th grader is 100% fine, not behind, not struggling.
I would like to know how many kids are having the same experience as PP's kid. (My kids are not.) I would also like to know more about those who are struggling. We all have theories. Some hard data is needed. As much as the teachers complain about standardized testing, I hope that this will shed some light on this question.
My kids are not struggling -- it's a combination of privileged circumstances (parents who can work from home), their personalities, their teachers' efforts, and just some damn luck. I don't think I am a better parent than anyone else. Really, there by the grace of God go I. I often wanted to cry last year and I am completely exhausted. I did drop the ball many times during their remote schooling and they spent too much time on screens and eating junk food. Much of the reason why my kids weren't that affected is that they were privileged to begin with -- if they were in any way behind, they would have fallen more behind. I cannot believe the lack of empathy being shown to parents here whose kids are struggling. Maybe it explains a lot about our society now.
