And that's the key of this whole mess -- 2020 politics.

$5 billion is peanuts in the grand scheme of the budget. But Democrats can't risk to give Trump a win to boost his 2020 chance. If Trump folds this time, he will be dead to a big chunk of his base in 2020.

This shutdown could last a long time. I don't see a way out unless each side's base flip.[/quote]

I think Nancy is coaching him on how to walk this back without looking like he caved. He knows he’s in over his head, but won’t back down unless he can do so with his ego intact.
