I'm Democratic leaning with plenty of Democrat friends, and I don't know a single Democrat that is promoting these items on this list: open borders (no we want sane, streamlined entry), confiscate guns (we want sane gun laws eg background checks, waiting periods, mental health, why on earth do citizens need semi automatics?), condemn the police (no, but find a way to deal with all the brutality/racism and unnecessary police killings that go unpunished just because they protect their own). Smaller defense force - the military industrial complex that Eisenhower warned of is at an outrageously wasteful level and continues to grow - why not spend more wisely, invest some of that bloat in infrastructure and space exploration which leads to new inventions etc.  More welfare? Ha, we just believe employees deserve a living wage and top management is grossly overpaid and stock buybacks as a result of even more tax breaks are ridiculous.

But number one is healthcare for all - yes, we will claim that one. If you did your research, you'd know that countries providing it (despite the inevitable issues) have a MUCH higher standard of living than we do here in the US.  Our life expectancy continues to decline - for many reasons including that big pharma incentivizes opioid overuse. For profit medicine with too many middlemen is destroying this country. The US standard of living ranking falls lower and lower annually.[/quote]

Amen, amen to the PP above!

Why can the conservatives that post here and the conservative media machine not understand any nuance.  It's all black and white for them.  Open borders or closed borders.  No guns or all guns all the time!  Support the police without question or condemn the police without question.  Support the military without question or shut down the military.

There are many shades of grey between these positions.  The liberals I know want each of these issues to be tackled with smart solutions that try to balance efficiency and effectiveness without losing sight of treating people with respect.  I can want security at our borders that also treats the people that come here looking for a better life with care and respect.  I can want common sense gun control measures without thinking we will take all guns away from everyone.  I can be supportive of a police force without being willing to tolerate individual cases of undo force. I can support the military while also demanding that tax dollars be spent wisely and EVEN MORE IMPORTANT, that our active military be treated well and deployed judiciously and that our veterans be properly cared for when they return home.  These are peoples' lives we are talking about.  The same goes for the environment and government regulations that protect clean water, clean air etc.  [/quote]
