The 50-60 are OHS bound rising 8th graders. Has nothing to do with Madison. These are OHS kids who are currently in 7th grade at LJ and apparently want to switch to TMS for 8th grade. (??? siblings? are you suggesting they all have siblings who are one year younger and would be rising 7th graders?)
Think of these kids as the "early adapters" who are bailing on LJ for Thoreau sooner rather than later. That's the exact dynamic the School Board has set in motion, and it's not going to stop.
There is no "sooner" or later. Either you are zoned for LJ or you are zoned for TMS (in the future). What is there to "adapt" to (for families in 2019 and beyond)? Info from fcps admin source. The unexpected demand is not frim AAP growing at TMS.
It does point out how incredibly wrong facilities is in their estimations.
?? Not really. They were apparently right that the AAP numbers would stay the same. They expect that ALL (non Aap) OHS 7th and 8th graders will be at TMS starting in 2019. They allow 8th graders to be grandfathered to stay at LJ for fall 2018. Facilities' numbers aren't wrong just because some kids were willing to move for fall 2018. It does put an extra burden on TMS a bit earlier than planned. They aren't complaining. They are just working to accommodate whoever comes. Ultimately, the facilites projections on gen ed kids will be spot on. As for AAP, no one knows...including those who see doom. Right now, their doom predictions for 2018 appear to be unfounded.
