Ukraine is making progress, but they are being very strategic about it and are making cautious tactical choices.  They continue to make numerous surgical strikes taking out Russian artillery (where Russia has one of its few remaining advantages) along with strikes to take out command and leadership, and to demoralize Russia.  They are doing a great job with that.

But if you think all this should be going faster or want them to go charging full tilt with all their armor and infantry "LEEEEEEROY JENKINS" style into fields littered with thousands of Russian mines then you're either uninformed or foolish.[/quote]

TBH that's wishful thinking where you convince yourself they are playing some kind of three-dimensional chess and there is some kind of success that's invisible and undetectable.  I mean it could be that.  Or they could be doing quite badly.  It isn't possible to say right now.[/quote]

Without air dominance, it's going to be a slog. Russians had a year to dig in. Every approach to their positions is heavily mined. Their artillery is locked in. There's no easy way to break through. Slow and methodical is the only way.

It's a very good thing that the US invests so much in air power. American soldiers will never have to fight like this. But for Ukrainians, it's a terrible war.[/quote]
