Serious question, why does everyone believe MLS Next > ECNL? I get it if you are at an MLS Academy, but not quite sure I understand the big difference if you are just at a club.
MLS is the brand of first division professional soccer in the country. ECNL is a brand that throughout the years positioned itself as the highest level of youth soccer. With professional teams breeding their players from the academies they have the (allegedly) highest possible talent within their location. Now that MLS has a youth platform called MLS next it, de facto, means that any kid playing at MLS next is 99% better than any ECNL kid. Currently, NOVA area has DC Utd, SYC, and Alexandria as the only MLS next options. They’re all within a very close proximity. West Virginia also has an MLS club but they do not have teams at all age groups. Logically, MLS next wants a club to join the brand’s league within the area between West VA club and DC. All points to Leesburg. In Leesburg you have Loudoun Soccer/NVA, Leesburg Football Club, The St. James (former FCV) and VA Revolution. Realistically, only Revolution, NVA and The St. James have any options of securing that golden spot. I’ll let others provide their thoughts on who’s got chances to win that MLSN spot.
