Most rec coaches are just glorified babysitters that are trying to make sure his DC has friends to play with. There are some decent rec players but they can’t hold a candle to any mid level travel player. And I guarantee any rec player whose dad is coaching is not even average. [/quote]

I agree. Most rec coaches are really nice moms and dads that want to see their kids have fun on the weekend. This is especially true at the little ages (U5-U8), where the most important part of the game is making sure kids are having fun and having snacks and juice afterwards :). But I don't disagree that some of the rec coaches at the older ages can get a little too intense. I have seen rec coaches at the older ages scream and belittle kids, referees (who are also kids usually) and opponents. The rec all-star tournament coaches can sometimes bring out the worst people humanity has to offer. At these older levels you will not see that kind of behavior from 99% of travel coaches. If your kid has any talent and you have the means travel is the better option.[/quote]
