The scramble now is a headache.
Stop it. You knew that all of the other districts had called it in the morning that’s when you plan so that there is no scramble. You knew this was a very real possibility.
So I should make decisions on whether to send my kids to school based not on what MY school district says, but on neighboring ones? That makes sense to you? Get a grip.
My goodness - how old are your kids? Are they in kindergarten and you are not used to MCPS ways yet? Here's a tip from an old timer - MCPS closes for inclement weather and they tend to announce later. Granted, I was surprised they didn't send an announcement out at 5 am like they usually do but I guess it's better than being notified at 11 am (which has happened before). When you see there is inclement weather in the forecast, assume there will be a 2 hour delay/no school/early dismissal. Start making plans. You don't need for MCPS to officially call it.
Not PP, but to be honest, I don't scroll WTOP for the school closings for other districts on rainy days.
That’s on you. If knew other counties nearby were closing, might want to start doing your job as a parent and scrolling, whether you disagree with the decision or not bc it’s going to be called whether you like it or not. How do people like you have children?
So sorry, I am not from a region that closes for rain, it is a different culture in DC and I am still learning.
In your learning, try googling the word “flooding,” so you’ll stop making stupid comments like “HURR DURR I am not from a region that closes for rain.”
DP but looks like the WV and Virginia counties primarily cancelled after school/evening activities. Is MD getting hit earlier or something?
I think it's peer pressure- another PP said it well- HoCo cancelling is the greatest predictor of MoCo doing so. My colleagues who live in Virginia were all like why are your schools closing early. Shrug. MD gonna MD.
VA schools were closed too, genius.
Which ones?
Does everyone else have to do your homework for you? https://wtop.com/closings-and-delays/
This shows tomorrow
DP, but Jesus Christ. Check for yourself. It was all over the news today that VA schools were closed. You sound like a real moron.
None of the schools in the DC metro area had an early dismissal. Fairfax, Arlington, Alexandria City, Falls Church City all had full days. Even Loudoun and Prince William had full days. And everyone made it home safely.
My kids' public charter schools in DC proper both had early dismissal. But I think MoCo announced first, so I blame them.
Montgomery County's decision came after Batlimore County, PG, Howard and Frederick. Once the other large districts made the decision, MCPS had to follow suit. If there was a bus accident or a staff member in an incident due to road flooding, high winds, etc, it would have been hell to pay here on these boards. They can't win either way! But know that they've always erred on the side of caution and when dealing with kids, that is the best thing to do in my humble opinion.
