Yes, it’s a pretty crazy… drizzle out there. But middle schooler already back after virtually no instruction so let’s keep our eyes on what’s important.
Would you have preferred for them to wait until you see bad weather out your window, before sending the kids home?
“Bad weather” is not reason to cancel school. “Dangerous” weather is not predicted until 5, if even then https://x.com/capitalweather/status/1744737898954686672?s=46&t=kXNpUewkV_Y9BqQTN3vOUw.
Not your call. Homeschooling is always an option, if you want to make the rules. Shrug.
Our homeschool co-op had all classes today, until our normal departure at 5:15 p.m. You're right... it's great to be able to read the weather forecast and make a rational decision!
If you have to worry about flooding on the kids’ walk from living room to bedrooms, you and your sister wives should do something about that.
Anonymous wrote:Would you look at that, Howard county is delayed but Montgomery county is not. I’m glad I did not have to use my contingency plans. But I would not have been caught off guard if we would have had a delay.
I really hope some of you get your act together so that next time that way you won’t get caught off guard with your shocked Pikachu faces.

A large tree is down in the street on the route DD’s bus takes. I’m grateful school got out early.
The tree on Westbard? Fell down at 730.

Exactly. Former MCPS parent and moved to Howard. I just came to see how unhinged this thread would get. Didn’t disappoint. So glad I moved out of there. Seriously, Montgomery County parents are the absolute worst. For all its faults, MCPS will never do anything right for these insane people and it actually makes me feel sorry for MCPS.

Stop it. You knew that all of the other districts had called it in the morning that’s when you plan so that there is no scramble. You knew this was a very real possibility.
So I should make decisions on whether to send my kids to school based not on what MY school district says, but on neighboring ones? That makes sense to you? Get a grip.
My goodness - how old are your kids? Are they in kindergarten and you are not used to MCPS ways yet?
Here's a tip from an old timer - MCPS closes for inclement weather and they tend to announce later. Granted, I was surprised they didn't send an announcement out at 5 am like they usually do but I guess it's better than being notified at 11 am (which has happened before). When you see there is inclement weather in the forecast, assume there will be a 2 hour delay/no school/early dismissal. Start making plans. You don't need for MCPS to officially call it.
Not PP, but to be honest, I don't scroll WTOP for the school closings for other districts on rainy days.
That’s on you. If knew other counties nearby were closing, might want to start doing your job as a parent and scrolling, whether you disagree with the decision or not bc it’s going to be called whether you like it or not. How do people like you have children?
So sorry, I am not from a region that closes for rain, it is a different culture in DC and I am still learning.
In your learning, try googling the word “flooding,” so you’ll stop making stupid comments like “HURR DURR I am not from a region that closes for rain.”
DP but looks like the WV and Virginia counties primarily cancelled after school/evening activities. Is MD getting hit earlier or something?
I think it's peer pressure- another PP said it well- HoCo cancelling is the greatest predictor of MoCo doing so. My colleagues who live in Virginia were all like why are your schools closing early. Shrug. MD gonna MD.
VA schools were closed too, genius.
Which ones?

DP, but Jesus Christ. Check for yourself. It was all over the news today that VA schools were closed. You sound like a real moron.
None of the schools in the DC metro area had an early dismissal. Fairfax, Arlington, Alexandria City, Falls Church City all had full days. Even Loudoun and Prince William had full days. And everyone made it home safely.
Maryland
Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland closed 2.5 hours early.
Frederick County Public Schools closed three hours early. Offices will remain open as scheduled. Afternoon Pre-K was canceled.
Harford County Public Schools buildings closed three hours early. There will be no Pre-K, Early Intervention or Early Learner regional programs.
“The timing of this storm would have an impact on the dismissal process and consequent bus routes and activities. Our goal with this advance notice is to ensure the safety of our students and staff while also providing families an opportunity to plan ahead for this unexpected change in schedule,” the school system said in a statement.
Howard County Public Schools closed three hours early Tuesday. All aftercare programs, evening activities and community-sponsored programs are canceled.
Calvert County Public Schools closed two hours early and all after-school and evening activities are canceled, the school system said in a post on social media.
St. Mary’s County Public Schools closed two hours early and all evening activities are canceled.
Prince George’s County Public Schools also closed two hours early and canceled all after-school activities due to the weather.
Virginia
There will be no after school activities at Fairfax County Public Schools in Virginia.
Culpepper County Public Schools closed Tuesday.
“Due to the forecast of inclement weather, Culpeper County Schools will be closed tomorrow, Tuesday, January 9, 2024. Twelve-month employees do not report, essential personnel report at 10:00 AM,” a statement on their website reads.
Stafford County Public Schools will “open on time January 9, however, due to anticipated afternoon adverse wind and rain, schools will release 2 hours early on January 9,” an alert on their website reads. All afternoon early childhood programs and evening activities are canceled.
Spotsylvania County Public Schools closed Tuesday, citing the “potentially hazardous conditions for travel both to and from school for our students and staff,” a statement on their website reads. Twelve-month employees reported two hours late.
In Fauquier County, “all secondary schools, except Marshall Middle School will dismiss at 11 a.m. All elementary schools and Marshall Middle School will dismiss at noon All after-school activities and school events scheduled for the evening are canceled,” the school system said in a post on social media.

Fauquier, Spotsylvania, Stafford and Culpeper are NOT Va schools in the DC metro area. Yes, they’re in Virginia, but not the DMV.
Most of the Maryland school districts in the area closed early. If the Virginia school districts in the area didn't close early, so what? Why do you care?
Because a poster above asserted that “it was all over the news today that VA schools were closed.” That’s not correct.

My kids' public charter schools in DC proper both had early dismissal. But I think MoCo announced first, so I blame them.
