NP here. Following bc my U15 has tried out for multiple clubs this weekend and hasn’t received a single offer despite holding her own. She is 5’10” and is not a show-off type player but is solid and reliably steadfast, for example her HS coach would always put her in when the team was neck and neck in a pinch bc she can get the job done. She has club experience but her old local “popular” club recently “dissolved” and now she is homeless. She did a bunch of clinics but never wed herself to any particular club bc she wanted to keep her options open. Now we are freaking out. Any advice or tips? She is a 9/10 reliable server and hits into the box 9/10 although she isn’t a powerhouse. She admittedly isn’t the strongest (she has a trainer and is working on that) but she puts the work in and gives 110%. Are there any clubs still looking for girls after this weekend? It seems such a shame that she will be relegated to playing Rec when she is clearly a club level player but maybe is overlooked in the masses.
We are in the same boat. My DD used to play for ECP. I am so sick of coaches saying things in clinics and try outs, basically promising she’ll get an offer when they don’t haven’t intention of making one. This happened 3 times this weekend. Pulling her aside, asking her what other clubs she’s trying out for, telling her they want her on their team. All that does is get her hopes way up, she’s confident she will get an offer, and then she’s constantly asking me “did you get a call, email or text?” Constantly. Finally one coach did reply she was sorry but she won’t be making an offer after all but radio silence on the others. Just tell us no. Don’t say this stuff to kids at try outs. Some kids, like mine, refuse to listen to their parents that the coaches may not be sincere and to keep trying out for other clubs.
PP here and I feel for your DD bc we are in the same boat. DD is so discouraged. She played volleyball from 8am until 5pm today driving all around Dc metro area. She said some matches were “the best she’d ever played,” and even the girls were giving her props “nice block! Nice hit” but the coaches didn’t give her a look, and she doesn’t have a single offer for club to date. She is devastated. We are just hopeful that she might be considered second string for an offer after Tuesday?
