She is 5’10” and is not a show-off type player but is solid and reliably steadfast, for example her HS coach would always put her in when the team was neck and neck in a pinch bc she can get the job done. She has club experience but her old local “popular” club recently “dissolved” and now she is homeless. She did a bunch of clinics but never wed herself to any particular club bc she wanted to keep her options open. Now we are freaking out. Any advice or tips? She is a 9/10 reliable server and hits into the box 9/10 although she isn’t a powerhouse. She admittedly isn’t the strongest (she has a trainer and is working on that) but she puts the work in and gives 110%. Are there any clubs still looking for girls after this weekend? It seems such a shame that she will be relegated to playing Rec when she is clearly a club level player but maybe is overlooked in the masses.
There are definitely clubs that have more tryouts on Monday.
Mojo is still looking for some 16s and up
I know Renaissance has a Monday evening tryout for 15U and may be looking for a couple of more players. For what it’s worth- the few moms I have spoken to who have met the coaches (I believe they are all either accepting or will accept their offer for that team) really liked the coaches- both the moms and the daughters. (They have their final tryouts for all ages on Monday evening)

Her top choices haven’t come through, even though she played for ECP last year. Based on earlier posts and the insane number of girls in her age group at tryouts, I guess she should be thrilled. It was rough out there this weekend, and my DD thought she’d have more options too. ECP really scr3wed over a lot of the girls.
First offer is from a Metro Regional team in her age group. The second is from another lower level regional team (think along the lines of X factor, No Panic, Monument), but playing up an age group. She likes both coaches equally, appreciates the culture of both clubs, and both are logistically about the same distance and location-wise (Far!). Lol. Cost is not an huge consideration, although the second club is quite a bit more expensive than Metro. Tournament schedules are basically identical. Metro has their own regional tournament the same weekend the other club goes to Pittsburgh I think.
- Better to play up a year?
- the Metro regional team is ranked higher?
- Any questions we should ask before deciding?
- should we accept or wait until after Tuesday to see if the other clubs offer her a spot when others decline? We have never been in this position before bc she’s always played for ECP.
TIA!

I know that travel costs are included for players but as I understand it most parents still travel to all the tournaments. A VA Elite mom told me it cost them close to $18K last year all in. $12K for club fees and then another $6000 for all the parent travel. What are they getting for all that money that you can't get at other clubs? DD was pretty interested this year because she has some HS teammates who play there but we just couldn't make sense of the price tag.

Anonymous wrote:DD went to the Mojo callback today and it was a zoo. DD who plays for a competitive club and HS barely got a look, and former ECP players who were weaker than others in their courts, got pulled from the group instead of obviously stronger players. It was demoralizing and confusing for some girls who were clearly playing their hearts out only to be ignored. We saw it happen several times when weaker players were pulled out bc coaches knew them. Also they pulled the tall girls even though they were slower and missing blocks. Disappointing. Glad my DD has other offers. I feel bad for anyone who put their eggs in the mojo basket.

We are in the same boat. My DD used to play for ECP. I am so sick of coaches saying things in clinics and try outs, basically promising she’ll get an offer when they don’t haven’t intention of making one. This happened 3 times this weekend. Pulling her aside, asking her what other clubs she’s trying out for, telling her they want her on their team. All that does is get her hopes way up, she’s confident she will get an offer, and then she’s constantly asking me “did you get a call, email or text?” Constantly. Finally one coach did reply she was sorry but she won’t be making an offer after all but radio silence on the others.
Just tell us no. Don’t say this stuff to kids at try outs. Some kids, like mine, refuse to listen to their parents that the coaches may not be sincere and to keep trying out for other clubs.
