I really do think I'm missing the mark here. This isn't a rhetorical "what am I missing," but really, what am I missing?

To be clear, I'm reacting to the notion that this is HER responsibility. I'm NOT reacting to the notion that Jerry is a criminal and he's where he should be. I have no issue with this "celebrity cheerleader" going to jail. None. What he did is repulsive, but in my view, it's his cross to bear, his responsibility, not the coaches of a team that weren't coaching him at the time.
