I agree. I'm glad that they were brave enough to speak up and expose him, but I think their parents were not doing their job to shield them as much as possible from any notoriety or repercussions. But I think generally the parents in this niche sport are about a half step up from toddlers & tiaras parents, so I'm not surprised.

As a parent in this sport, that’s a pretty crappy conclusion. Most cheer parents are just normal people.

I kind of couldn't believe the 3 some living together. I have no idea what is wrong w people who believe he's creepy with the girl. But it was sort of amazing that they showed them like that!? To get attenion and have people wondering (it's working)!

The first thing that popped into my mind was a polyamorous relationship.

I am a victim of sexual abuse. It's not my personal style, but I could see what the boys did helping them to feel empowered. and if that was the case, it seems the mom's job (there's no dad in the picture?) to support them.

I just finished the Jerry episode.

It was crazy when Monica said that Jerry mentioned in his letter that he wants to do motivational speaking in the future.

I feel like one of two things is going on in his mind: 1-his cheer mom/family is feeding him BS about getting him off these charges & he really thinks he'll leave lockup looking like some victim. 2-all of Jerry's childhood trauma stunted his mental growth and his brain age doesn't match is physical age and he doesn't understand the depth of trouble he's in. Maybe he doesn't even understand that what he did was wrong because to him 13 and 19 are the same because of the word TEEN in them.

Another former Division I athlete with several NCAA titles. She seems typical to me.

I agree, she seems like a master manipulator.

I'm not sure thats fair. Ladarius has major issues around abandonment. She does seem to get emotionally invested in her "kids" which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I was blazing through Cheer then got to the Jerry episode and it just sort of stopped me in my tracks. I'm so conflicted about continuing to watch. I applaud the bravery of the kids and the attorney who came forward, but I wonder at their reaction to Monica and the rest of the coaches. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of Monica. I think she's collecting wounded birds and turning them into these cheer machines who don't have a lot of choices, but if she/they truly thought or saw that Jerry was preying on these kids, nothing I've seen tells me they wouldn't turn him in. I honestly don't think she'd turn a blind eye to that. So why is it her responsibility to know these signs, when the actions apparently happened at another cheer event at which she's not the coach? The Jerry stuff happened elsewhere - so why is this HER fault (according to the lawyer). It just made me pause and wonder what in the world....

I really do think I'm missing the mark here. This isn't a rhetorical "what am I missing," but really, what am I missing?

To be clear, I'm reacting to the notion that this is HER responsibility. I'm NOT reacting to the notion that Jerry is a criminal and he's where he should be. I have no issue with this "celebrity cheerleader" going to jail. None. What he did is repulsive, but in my view, it's his cross to bear, his responsibility, not the coaches of a team that weren't coaching him at the time.
