That's a silly thing to say. There's nothing inherently dangerous about riding a bicycle, major city or no major city. The danger comes from cars and their drivers. So, how can we make it safer for people to ride a bicycle? By adding safe bicycle infrastructure. Which will, in turn, encourage more people to ride a bicycle, and that will also make it safer for people to ride a bicycle.

This bike hatred on DCUM is pure bigotry. There is no such thing as a "biker". We are people. When we ride a bicycle, we are bicyclists. When we take the bus, we are bus riders. When we walk, we are pedestrians. When we drive, we are drivers.

If you, personally, don't want to ride a bicycle, that's fine. Nobody is going to force you to ride a bicycle.[/quote]

Car drivers who drive dangerously should be held to account.  So should bikers who don't obey the traffic laws, fail to stop at stop signs and signals and don't yield the right of way to pedestrians.  These idiots who think they're riding in the Tour de F@#$ give other sub/urban cyclists a bad name.[/quote]

But, in fact, car drivers who drive dangerously are not held to account (whatever you mean by that). And when car drivers drive dangerously, it endangers everyone on the street. If you're truly concerned for the safety of people riding bicycles, you should support safe bicycle infrastructure.
