An interesting thing about this scandal is that Chrissy fully admits it happened. I mean, there are receipts, so not much she can do. It really feels like she think she can issue this mea culpa, then lay low, and then return to her previous position in the celebrity landscape. Sadly, she's probably right. I experienced bullying/harassment like this on two occasions and in both cases, there was never any accountability. There were people who acknowledged "yeah, that was terrible." But generally people are eager to forgive powerful people. It takes doing something so terrible that you simply cannot overlook it, like what Harvey Weinstein did, to change that. People can justify just about anything else. Heck, the justified Weinstein for years, so the odds that a more run-of-the-mill bully (who at least did nothing physically violating) would be held accountable are so slim. I really admire Stodden for pursuing this anyway. Teigan has a lot of cultural clout. She super connected in Hollywood thanks to her husband, she's got lots of social media cred, she gets a lot of positive press and public sympathy. It's really hard to stand up to someone in that position and say, "It's not okay what you did to me." Trust me, I've done it on a much smaller, less public scale. It's hard and scary and sometimes you wonder if it's worth it because it often just refocuses the same negative attention that you got from the bully back on you. But for me, I had to do it to prove to myself and my family that I didn't deserve to be treated that way. I hope Stodden feels the same way. Teigan will probably creep back into the public eye without ever really paying a price or making this up to Stodden and the others she bullied. But at least Stodden has it on record that this happened, and that it wasn't okay. That's worth something.
