Courtney has been a hot mess since her arrival in Hollywood and was constantly seeking attention by her provocative dress, talking about their sex life, doing tons of press (one of the ones who called the paparazzi before she headed to the grocery store in her platform heels, plunging neckline and short short short skirts) and even going down the reality TV drain. She was so obviously groomed and packaged and exploited by Doug and her mother - it was painful and even sometimes gross to watch, but I don’t get how anyone couldn’t muster compassion even in the face of some of Courtney’s more distasteful exhibitions.

SHE WAS A TEENAGER, after all!

I’m a John Legend fan, but didn’t know much of anything about his wife until her widely publicized miscarriage which I initially appreciated her for sharing, because still too many of us suffer alone without feeling we can discuss it. But after this revelation, I’m sickened and I feel sorry for her husband and kids. What kind of person thinks it’s edgy or cool to publicly post such vile things? And what kind of monster goes behind the scenes to urge a messed up teenager to kill herself?!

She is one sick beeyatch.

I don't remember that being the narrative about Courtney 10 years ago. There was some calling Doug a creep but she was subjected to a lot of the same toxic media as Britney Spears. What Chrissy did was bad but was not totally out of the norm for the time.

Glennon Doyle (momastery) still follows her. Way to make a statement Glennon!

And if Courtney had followed through on it could potentially be criminal. Michelle Carter, who encouraged her boyfriend to commit suicide by text, served an 11 month sentence for her part in his death. Chrissy is rather lucky nothing happened given her disgusting behavior. Chrissy had no business crossing that line and saying what she did. There's something very wrong with her.

Good to hear. Pour another, Chrissy.

Yup. I’m really enjoying this because the utter sociopathy and gratuitous cruelty of what Chrissy did warrants losing deals. This pushback against her is actually earned! You never see a bully getting what’s coming to them, ever, and this is at least a little something.

Mocking someone who has identified that they may have a problem with alcohol is pretty high on the sociopathy scale too.

DP. No it’s not. Having a problem with alcohol doesn’t give you a free pass.

Oh never mind. Yeah, the “pour another” comment was inappropriate. No one deserves to be mocked because of their problem with alcohol.

That poster’s snark was not sociopathic. You’re desperate to draw these comparisons that simply don’t exist. Since this is too much for you, flounce off.

Wow, I was just reading about this. This goes beyond just being a garden-variety jerk / it was deliberately cruel, toxic bullying. Calling people w*ores, telling them to kill them selves - that is very ugly. I am canceling her in my Jen mind, and don’t read another word about her, listen to what she’s shr has to say, etc. Her husband seem so tp be a kind soul, I wonder what he makes of it all.

I didn’t write “pour another.” But Chrissy weaponizes her struggles for clicks and likes. It’s not working here.

It really feels like she think she can issue this mea culpa, then lay low, and then return to her previous position in the celebrity landscape. Sadly, she's probably right. I experienced bullying/harassment like this on two occasions and in both cases, there was never any accountability. There were people who acknowledged "yeah, that was terrible." But generally people are eager to forgive powerful people. It takes doing something so terrible that you simply cannot overlook it, like what Harvey Weinstein did, to change that. People can justify just about anything else. Heck, the justified Weinstein for years, so the odds that a more run-of-the-mill bully (who at least did nothing physically violating) would be held accountable are so slim.

I really admire Stodden for pursuing this anyway. Teigan has a lot of cultural clout. She super connected in Hollywood thanks to her husband, she's got lots of social media cred, she gets a lot of positive press and public sympathy. It's really hard to stand up to someone in that position and say, "It's not okay what you did to me." Trust me, I've done it on a much smaller, less public scale. It's hard and scary and sometimes you wonder if it's worth it because it often just refocuses the same negative attention that you got from the bully back on you. But for me, I had to do it to prove to myself and my family that I didn't deserve to be treated that way. I hope Stodden feels the same way. Teigan will probably creep back into the public eye without ever really paying a price or making this up to Stodden and the others she bullied. But at least Stodden has it on record that this happened, and that it wasn't okay. That's worth something.

You’ve put this so well. I completely agree. And while it’s minor, I truly believe that average people with a sense of morality will NEVER respect Chrissy on any level again. They will see her as disgusting.

An interesting thing about this scandal is that Chrissy fully admits it happened. I mean, there are receipts, so not much she can do.
