How can I reconcile their kindness to me one on one with the Republican policies and actions that are taking away people's healthcare, making future generations pay for tax cuts for today's super rich, tainting our supreme court with partisan operatives with a history of sex assault allegations and undermining our democracy with Trump's swampy cabinet and autocratic attitude about attacking the press and obstructing justice? My post is sincere. I think the modern GOP is basically evil so I am having a hard time understanding how someone can still be a Republican if they are a decent person.
OP, you can't believe it because you have fallen for every stereotype of a Republican there is. In truth, Republican voters want many of the same things that the Democrat voters do, they just disagree on how to go about it. Republicans do not want to take away people's health care. They want smart solutions that do not involve the fed government bloat and red tape running it, making it more complicated, and then using it to grant political favors similar to the way the tax code is used. Personally, I believe each state should be given fed funds to be used to provide health care that suits their citizenry rather than the central gov running it. IMO, keeping the money closer to the people who need subsidized healthcare means that more of that money actually gets to those people and less of it goes to bureaucratic fat cats. You do know the tax cuts included many working class people, right? They do not JUST benefit the super rich. Tainting the Supreme Court with partisan operatives. The democrats on the court vote lock step on the major issues. Roberts sided with Obamacare, even rewording parts so that it would pass. Kennedy was a swing voter. Most Republicans believe the Democratic wing of the court consists of the partisan operatives. They never break ranks. The news repeats that Republicans want to starve your children, poison your air and water, are racist, homophobic, evil, uncaring, unkind people. I think if you actually got to know all types of people and actually listened to their opinions, you might have a more well-rounded view. The fact that you accidentally made friends with a Republican speaks volumes about how much you get outside your bubble.
Well said. I would also add that OP does not seem at all bright.
