OP here, this is another point of confusion I have.  For the longest time, boys have worn those long, baggy shorts that come to their knees.  Now it seems the shorts have to be shorter, but not *too* short.  Honestly, it would be easier if they just went back to dressing up![/quote]

back in the 1960's and 1970's most school boys wore very short shorts, 2" inseam was not unusual I think there was a certain sexual aspect to this as boys and girls went to different schools and boys being boys liked to look attractive to other boys - boys will be boys and this defines the shorts that cubs and scouts also wore. at the time personally I still like wearing my rugby shorts with the 2" inseam, I'm not gay but find short shorts cool and comfortable and also find boys in shorts shorts nice to look at.[/quote]
